Day 8-May 22

 Good shepherd shelter

For the first half of the day, we did service at the good shepherd for women and children who are victims of domestic violence and need a safe space to stay. Our service was picking weeds out of the garden, pool, and playground, but the most important thing we did was in between picking the weeds, playing with the children. I could see how it meant so much for the children to have some new friends to play with, and as a man it was important to show these kids a good example of a male role model, as we were told some of the kids had experiences that made them afraid of men in general. I was so happy to get to see the joy in these kid's faces as we simply showed them love and had fun playing games with them.

Dinner with the brothers at the Lalanne community

For the second half of the day, we had dinner with the brothers in the Lalanne community. Sharing time with the Marianist, Fr. Ken, Fr. Jim, and Bro. Dave was a great opportunity to invite the students and staff to the Marianist Table. Everyone was able to share our experiences throughout the trip and answer deep questions that allow an individual to take the time to think. Many stories about the trip were very dear to our hearts and to the Marianist. Being able to see the Brothers willing to listen to each of our experiences were special. We shared many laughs and emotional moments. But, God had provided us an opportunity to be vulnerable and present in the conversation that was being shared. The Holy Spirit was present in our group conversation and it was a special moment.
