Day 9-May 23












 We started off the day at homeboy industry’s. Before our tour we ordered some food at homegirl cafe personally I got the chilaquiles and it was delicious. After our breakfast we listened to the company’s thought of the day. It included a personal story that was quite moving and a few words of encouragement. After that we got to meet Father Greg who signed our books. He was very nice and had a warm aura around him. Everyone seemed to constantly talk about how great he was and what good he’s done. It was a testimony to the amount of lives he’s changed. After that our tour guide gave us his life story and explained how the mission has saved him it was very touching. He was so happy to talk with us and share his story. We loved hearing about his experience and all appreciated the wisdom he passed on to us from his experience in the gang life. Smart men learn from their mistakes, but wise men learn as well from the mistakes of others.



After homeboy industry we went to a market outside of the Union train station. There was beautiful South American music played by a man in the square he played the charango and quena we enjoyed dancing to his music. before doing some private reflection during adoration in a nearby church, which was the first one built in Los Angeles . After that we spent sometime shopping in the market and took a quick look in the massive union station. We finished the day off with some pizza and group time with each other to finish our time with each other on this LA immersion.

 Good shepherd shelter For the first half of the day, we did service at the good shepherd for women and children who are victims of domestic violence and need a safe space to stay. Our service was picking weeds out of the garden, pool, and playground, but the most important thing we did was in between picking the weeds, playing with the children. I could see how it meant so much for the children to have some new friends to play with, and as a man it was important to show these kids a good example of a male role model, as we were told some of the kids had experiences that made them afraid of men in general. I was so happy to get to see the joy in these kid's faces as we simply showed them love and had fun playing games with them. Day 1 - May 16th

  Maureen Nelly Manosca: We helped prepare and pass out breakfast. We also helped preparing lunch and cleaning the area. Working in these areas gave me a perspective on how life is so different from how life is at home. I see that these people have come from different walks of life but nonetheless, they still have a very positive outlook on life. It gave me a sense of gratitude when they strike a conversation with me about, they’re about to do that day, seeing as they have their own jobs big or small and take huge pride in that. After a tiring half day, I felt as though I couldn’t complain as much because the staff in the back were still up and at it. I give them huge props for waking up early mornings and staying late nights every day to help this community out and it makes me feel more faithful in not just myself but for others.     Paula: We went to Skid Row early in the morning to help with breakfast. Day 6- March 20

  Paula: Saturday was pretty interesting! Half of us went to LA Catholic Worker where we did a lot of work not only in the kitchen but outside too! We interacted a lot with the people who were at the garden, and I must say, some of them have pretty interesting stories and I’m so glad that I was able to help them in different ways, in this case by listening what they wanted to tell me. I didn’t talk to a lot of people like my friends but I’m glad that I was able to work there. I know that the other half decided to stay at the house, and they did a great work! The house was clean and both groups managed to get a great time J . After that, the day was kind of slow. We decided to visit the Griffith Observatory and it was amazing!
